Interested in becoming an SGCGirl?
Who is eligible?
All girls 13-18yr are welcome to join the SGCG Group.
*We want to provide mentorship for EVERYONE, but at this time, we are focusing on this specific group.
Do I have to pay to join this group?
NO. The SGCG Group is focused on providing FREE mentorship to all SGCGirls. As long as you have access to a computer or phone, you can join our online meetings!
How is this group different from others?
The SGCG Group is committed to giving personal insight from professional women and men. Our meetings are designed to equip young girls with knowledge pertaining to specific job titles. Mentor's will share primary goals and tasks associated with their jobs. Mentor's will also share experiences from their education and career paths. Overall, we believe that sharing our stories with our youth will aide them in strategically choosing a successful education and career path. We hope that our experiences can alleviate some challenges and roadblocks we wish we could have avoided.
Is it safe for young girls to join these meetings?
Yes! All mentors are interviewed before they can become an SGCG Mentor. All meetings are facilitated, recorded, and monitored by an SGCG Representative. Student information is NEVER shared with our mentors. Parents or guardians always have access to the meetings and are encouraged to join the meetings, as well. If students have questions for mentors after meetings, they can email us at info@sgcg.com. We'll do everything we can to get the information they're looking for!
What happens if our meeting gets hacked?
In the case of a hacking situation, the meeting will be cancelled immediately by the SGCG Group and a new meeting ID will be sent to each participant's email. The meeting will resume 5 minutes after the new meeting ID is sent out.
Interested in becoming an SGCG Mentor?
Who is eligible?
Anyone over the age of 18 with at least 5 years of work experience is encouraged to apply.
Do I need a college degree to be a mentor?
No. We understand that everyone has a unique path. Though we encourage education, we are not willing to sacrifice the knowledge and wisdom from those who did not attend college. Every story counts!
How much time will I need to commit as a mentor?
Once you become a mentor, we will email you a questionnaire. This questionnaire will automatically generate a Google Slides Presentation. You will then meet online with an SGCG representative to review and edit your presentation, if needed. You will present for 20 minutes and allow 10 minutes for any questions. It's super quick and easy!
Application: 10 minutes
Questionnaire: 10 - 20 minutes
Review: 15 minutes
Meeting: 30 minutes
Do I have to present on camera?
Yes, we want to make your presentation as personable as possible.
What kind of information am I expected to share?
We want to hear all about what you do and how you got there. Our students are at the age where they are asked to decide what they want to pursue in college. How can they know if they don't really know what these jobs are all about? Daily tasks, weekly tasks, monthly tasks, annual goals, these can help students decide if your job is one they would like to work towards. Did you go to College? Was your degree helpful in your career? Did you have to work while you were in college? How did you get your first job? Do I have to be good in specific subjects? Do introverts or extraverts do better in your position? What other challenging factors did you face while working towards your goals? Our students need real, in depth information, the kind that isn't advertised in college catalogs or online job postings.
Above all, we want you to acknowledge how far you have come! We want you to be proud of everything you have accomplished up to this point. Your experiences have many lessons, and we hope that you will share some of them with us. Now is YOUR time to SHINE! We want to hear YOUR STORY!
